A week ago, the Georgetown Raiders clinched the OJHL title with a 1-0 win over Trenton in game 7. Last night they did it again, this time in a shootout at the Dudley-Hewitt Cup.
Trenton’s Chris Janzen and Georgetown’s Nicholas Latinovich matched each other save for save for 70 minutes, but in the shootout, Latinovich was one save better as Georgetown comes out on top 1-0. Matt McJannet scored the lone goal in the shootout.
Janzen stopped 36 shots. He says while the loss was disappointing the Golden Hawks will be alright.
Latinovich turned aside 32 shots for his 3rd straight shutout against the Golden Hawks including games 6 and 7 of the league championship. Trenton coach and general manager Jerome Dupont tipped his hat to the Raider goaltender.
Despite the loss Trenton can clinch first place and a bye to Saturday’s final with a win in regulation over the SIJHL champion Dryden Ice Dogs tonight at 7:30 at the Dunc McDonald Community Gardens. CJBQ’s play by play coverage for Eastern Overhead Doors begins at 7:20.
The afternoon game has Georgetown facing the NOJHL champion Powassan Voodoos at 2:30
