Nothing welcomes spring like an ultimate dance party in Belleville’s West Zwick’s Park.
On Wednesday, over 2,500 students from 25 schools within the Hastings and Prince Edward District School Board proved they have some serious dance moves all coming together for the 27th annual Celebration of Dance.
Kindergarten to Grade 8 students from as far north as York River Public School in Bancroft to South-Marysburgh in Prince Edward County came out bursting with school spirit. They were dressed in colourful costumes and waving bright school flags.
Event coordinator Nikki Roy said the event is all about promoting physical literacy and well-being.

There are 12 set dances that the schools perform with two or three new ones every year. The new ones are submitted from schools. The students create and choreograph them then send them in for submission.
This year’s logo contest winner was Grade 3 student Elson Cox of Queen Elizabeth Public School in Picton. His unique logo was printed on t-shirts and published on the board’s website and social media pages.
