Public transit could become a reality in Prince Edward County in the near future thanks to a successful government grant application.
The County was recently notified its application to the Public Transit Infrastructure Fund for $22,896 was successful.
On Tuesday night, council signed an agreement for the approved application.
In 2013, the County Community Foundation undertook a Vital Signs study that found one of the biggest issues facing residents was getting around the County.
In October 2016, the County submitted a business case for public transit for 50 percent of the funds needed for the project.
Council approved $15,396 of the transit project in the 2017 budget pending application approval. The County Community Foundation will contribute $7,500 towards the project.
