The Belleville Downtown Business Improvement Area board is looking at streamlining the way it decides on what events and projects to support in the downtown.
Instead of having individuals or groups simply show up at board meetings asking for support, the BIA Executive Director is preparing a formal application process to be followed before direct presentations are made to the board.
Executive Director Marilyn Lawrie says a set application process will force applicants to provide detail on their plans and how they might become a reality.
It will also lead to the board having prior knowledge of an event or project before a presentation is made to them.
BIA board member Mike Malachowski worried that having a formal application process handled at first by the Executive Director and then a sub-committee might alienate people from the board.
However, most agreed that both the applicants and the board would be better served by a set application system. All final decisions would be made by the entire board.
A decision on the exact process is likely to come next month.
