It was a night to celebrate, remember and thank thousands of volunteers who have supported Volunteer & Information Quinte, as they enter 50 years of serving the area.
At the Banquet Centre Saturday night, a packed house gathered to honour those volunteers, associations, businesses leaders and community members who have supported VIQ over the decades.
Numerous business leaders, municipal politicians and volunteers received awards for their efforts in the past. An Inukshuk award was given to those honoured, as thanks.
MPP Todd Smith told the crowd how valuable VIQ truly is.
Board member Doug Peterson says volunteering goes so far beyond the person and the organization.
Executive Director of VIQ Brenda Snider was pleased with how the event went.
Volunteering provides $50 billion to the national economy. Ruth Ingersoll with Community Development Council of Quinte spoke during the evening, and says for her agency alone, more than $200,000 worth of volunteering was provided to CDC.
VIQ supports 260 local organizations in the area.
More on the story to come.
