Canada Day festivities in Picton could be getting even cooler this year.
On Tuesday, Prince Edward County council gave the green light to the Picton Splash Pad committee to start construction immediately, waiving the minimum $250,000 fundraising goal.
The splash pad committee has raised almost $211,000 of the project cost and hopes to have the water park ready for July 1.
Committee chair Susan Quaiff said after a little over two years in the works it feels great to see the finish line almost near.
Council also approved $24,000 for the splash pad’s annual operating costs with a donor kicking in an additional $10,000.
Council also passed a bylaw for a splash pad reserve fund.
