It was a productive day for the Quinte Red Devils at the OHL Priority Selection Draft on Saturday.
10 players from the local Minor Midget AAA program were picked in the 15-round draft, the second most for the Red Devils next to the 11 players taken in 2015.
The highest Red Devil selected was defenceman Cameron Supryka, in the third round, 60th overall to the Peterborough Petes. Supryka is the son of former Belleville Bulls and current Kingston Frontenacs assistant coach Jason Supryka and the brother of former Wellington Duke and current ‘Fronts forward Josh Supryka. The Petes also selected forward Daniel Panetta, the younger brother of ex-Duke and current Colgate University Raider Jacob Panetta in the fourth round. The team is coached by Steve Bancroft, an ex-Belleville Bulls defenceman and NHL draft pick. His son Dalton was picked in the 11th round by the Saginaw Spirit.
