With heavy rain on the way the next couple of days, Lower Trent Conservation has issued a flood outlook statement.
LTC says smaller creeks within its watershed are at significant risk of high water levels with 30mm to 40mm of rain forecast for tomorrow through to Friday and flow rates on the Trent River will increase as well, with that rain, combined with the snow melt.
Residents living along the river should ensure sump pumps are working and secure any personal property like docks or boats that may already be in the water, as they’re at risk of being carried away due to high water flows.
The Trent Severn Waterway is also monitoring the conditions and making changes to dams and other water control structures as needed.
LTC is also issuing the usual safety warnings when water levels rise, to avoid all water control structures and to use extra caution around waterways and the banks around them.
