Proving he was ready when needed, backup goaltender Elliot Gerth turned in a 36 save night as the Trenton Golden Hawks beat the Cobourg Cougars 3-2 in overtime.
Gerth had played in just 5 games after joining Trenton in January. He got the call, as starter Chris Janzen was serving the first of a 2 game suspension.
G-Hawks captain Josh Allan scored his second of the game at 7:42 of overtime.
Liam Morgan had the other Golden Hawks’ goal and defenceman Brandon Marinelli had two assists.
Trenton takes a 2-0 lead in the best of 7 OJHL North-East Conference final. Game 3 is tonight at the Dunc McDonald Community Gardens at 7:30. CJBQ is on the air for Eastern Overhead Doors at 7:20.
