Belleville’s planning committee has come down in favour of traditional storage units, rather than shipping containers for a business at 970 Highway 37.
The owner of the property, Glen Jarrell, wants to use shipping containers, while city staff believe they could be unsightly and provide an unfair competitive advantage over existing storage unit businesses.
Monday night, the planning committee decided to recommend that city council approve rezoning for a maximum of 76 traditional site built storage buildings.
The issue now goes to city council for a decision.
Cannifton building
Belleville’s planning committee is recommending rezoning to allow the sale of a surplus municipal building in Cannifton to be sold to two psychologists for offices.
The building, at 154 Cannifton Road, became vacant when the community archives were moved to the Belleville Public Library.
The recommendation goes to city council’s next meeting.
