Quinte West Council could pass a bylaw tonight allowing retail businesses to be open on selected statutory holidays.
The Quinte West Chamber of Commerce surveyed 50 retail businesses and 60% of them wanted the option of being open on stat holidays.
Council will hold a public meeting on the issue at its meeting tonight.
If passed as proposed, retail businesses who choose to could be open on Victoria, Canada, and Labour Days only.
Meanwhile, council will pass its budgets for this year at its regular meeting tonight.
Council is expected to make official an operating budget featuring a 2.2% hike in residential taxes.
Also being passed are the water and sewer budgets, which are user pay.
