Belleville’s Kevin Bailie and the Queen’s Golden Gaels hockey team had some legendary rockers join them at practise in advance of this weekend’s Canadian University championship in Fredericton. Gord Sinclair and Paul Langlois, members of The Tragically Hip suited up with the Gaels on Wednesday. They’re golf buddies of Queen’s head coach Brett Gibson.
Bailie, who was Belleville’s Athlete of the Year in 2014, told the Canadian Press “They’re so down to earth, you would have thought they were just a couple dads of players on the team.”
Unfortunately for Queen’s, it didn’t help as they lost their quarter final game 5-1 to the University of New Brunswick. Bailie stopped 31 of 36 shots.
The team arrived in Fredericton just hours ahead of the game due to the storm that hit Eastern Canada this week.
