A formal request for financial support wasn’t made, but one definitely will be coming to Prince Edward County Council in the near future from a Kingston based healthcare organization.
Denise Cumming and Shannon Coull of the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation thanked county council’s Committee of the Whole Thursday for their generous support in the past to improve cancer care at hospitals in Kingston that serve as a specialized health services hub for a wide region, including the Quinte region.
Prince Edward County has almost finished a 10 year pledge to Kingston health services of $502,000.
Now, volunteers are working to raise over $100,000,000 to redevelop parts of Kingston General, Hotel Dieu, and Providence Care hospitals in a new fundraising campaign.
The Foundation representatives pointed out that specialized medical services and equipment in Kingston was well used by county residents.
Last year, almost 2,000 people from Prince Edward County visited Kingston for cancer care and over 10,000 county residents used outpatient clinics there.
