It seems people around the Quinte Region aren’t sorting their recycling properly, which has prompted a stern warning from the folks at Quinte Waste Solutions.
Spokesperson Dan Orr tells Quinte News there is too much contaminated material coming into the recycling plant, meaning people are either not rinsing off their recyclable materials before tossing them, or are putting things in the blue box that shouldn’t be there at all.
Orr says that contamination can make recycled materials less valuable to the companies who buy them, but also causes issues for workers as well.
He says the easiest thing to do is to rinse your recyclables well and split them into two different blue boxes.
If your blue box isn’t up to par, you may notice a green “rejected” sticker on it, the next time it’s picked up.
