Belleville native Josh Supryka gave the shirt off his back and it was worth $6290 to the Gord Downie Fund for Brain Cancer Research.
Supryka plays for the OHL’s Kingston Frontenacs and his number 16 jersey drew the highest bid through an on-line auction of team jerseys worn on January 28th during a “Tragically Hip” tribute night.
The Frontenacs replaced their regular team logo with the band’s name in a banner across the chest. The online auction raised more than $73,000.
Supryka is a former member of the Wellington Dukes. He attended Canisius College in Buffalo New York before joining the Frontenacs in mid season.
