UPDATE: CIBC corporate spokesperson Caroline Van Hasselt in Toronto has told Quinte News the bank involved was the CIBC at 237 Front St. Hasselt says the bank will re-open for regular business hours at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.
A Belleville man has been charged after an incident that left a downtown Belleville bank closed Monday afternoon.
City police say a man walked into a bank in the early afternoon and then dropped a 10 inch knife onto the floor.
The man picked up the knife and quickly left the bank, which sources say was the CIBC branch in the downtown.
A short time later, officers arrested 31-year-old Ryan Begg and charged him with Weapons Dangerous and Carrying a Concealed Weapon.
He appears in court in early April. The branch was closed the rest of the day for an investigation.
