Hastings County is joining a move to have the federal government develop a National Pharmacare program.
A resolution from Peterborough County Council indicates a National Pharmacare program would provide savings to municipalities, while at the same time providing medication to residents who currently have no medical benefits.
At its recent meeting, Hastings County council decided to put its support behind the resolution, which calls on the federal and provincial governments to develop such a program.
The federal government’s Standing Committee on Health has received information on the benefits of such a program, and a citizens’ panel is recommending immediate action to address flaws in public and private drug coverage.
