The provincial government’s Ontario150 program, marking the province’s 150th birthday along with Canada’s 150th birthday, is funding a number of events in the Quinte area.
The Quinte Arts Council and Centennial Secondary School are both celebrating 50th anniversaries this year.
They are partnering for a three-day Youth Music and Arts Festival, which has just received $21,245 in funding from Ontario150.
Quinte Arts Council Executive Director Carol Feeney says there will be talks, demonstrations, workshops and concerts involving a long list of professional Canadian artists in many fields working with the students.
Feeney says a meeting with the students last year indicated what they wanted.
Musicians, print makers, artists, dancers, actors, sound and light technicians will all take part, as well as the Centennial Secondary School choir.
It is a youth-developed concept that will engage 30 youth artists with professional artists with all aspects of the festival, including organization, communication, workshop preparation and participation.
The event will be held in November.
