Following a recent fatal fire in Brampton, a local fire chief is sounding the alarm about not having an alarm.
Prince Edward Chief Scott Manlow says the fact is smoke detectors save lives.
Manlow says they need to be on every storey of your home and having them outside sleeping areas is crucial.
He says monthly tests are also important to ensure the alarms work when they are needed.
Manlow says the other thing each and every member of a home should know is your fire escape plan.
