A group of seven security guards at the Sir James Whitney School is out of work indefinitely, locked out as part of a labour dispute, that’s been ongoing for about 15 months.
The guards are part of the United Steel Workers, local 9597 and were under contract with the Commissionaires, before the company locked them out this week.
Union Rep Dave Meinzinger tells Quinte News the biggest sticking point is improvements to worker benefits.
Meinzinger says at this point, there’s not much else they can do to get back to work, other than pressure the company to go back to the table.
The workers are hoping provincial officials will take notice of whats’ happening and either force the company back to the bargaining table, or sign a contract with a new company all together.
