Six members of the Belleville Police Service were officially given their scrolls of promotion Monday.
The officers were unofficially promoted to their new ranks in November.
Promoted were: Staff Sergeant Rene Aubertin, Staff Sergeant Jeff Geen, Staff Sergeant Julie Forestell, Sergeant Pat Kellar, Sergeant Mike Lockwood, and Sergeant Mike Kiley.
In presenting the promotional scrolls at a meeting of the Police Services Board, Chief Ron Gignac said the six officers were “leaders” and “the future” of the Belleville Police Service.
Chief Gignac stressed that promotions in the department weren’t a popularity contest, but were given on merit, based on performance.
He also thanked the many members of the officers’ families present, thanking them for their sacrifice in support of the police service.
Meanwhile, the Police Services Board held a moment of silence for the victims of the mosque attack in Quebec City that occurred Sunday night.
