Hastings County is taking a major step in marketing itself for economic development by “going alone”.
The county stretches from Belleville’s northern boundary to north of Bancroft and east and west.
This means a diverse area dotted with lakes, rivers, agriculture, golf courses, small businsses and logging.
Warden Rodney Cooney says the different marketing agencies the county used in the past didn’t encompass the 14 municipalities.
The county has opted out of Bay of Quinte Tourism and the Bancroft Chamber of Commerce.
The county will spend about $40,000 a year over the next two years of the project.
He says “different councillors struggled with it” but decided to try the plan for two years.
The county had hired a consultant and received a report on the issue at a special meeting recently.
