In response to the growing upward trend of medical marijuana use, Loyalist College has been granted a licesne by Health Canada, to study the plant and its medical components.
Loyalist’s Supercritical CO2 Extraction Lab will study samples from various licensed producers, to analyze the chemical components of the plant and ensure that medical marijuana is adhering to Health Canada guidelines.
Lead researcher Dr. Kari Kramp tells Quinte News, their work will benefit both producers and consumers alike.
The application process took about three years and according to the Health Canada website, Loyalist is the only college in the country to be accredited for this study.
Dr. Kramp says that’s just more proof that Loyalist continues to be a leader in CO2 extraction technologies.
