The lawyer named by a Belleville city councillor as being in a conflict of interest regarding other conflict of interest allegations levelled against Mayor Taso Christopher wants to set the record straight.
Yesterday, at Belleville city council, Kelly McCaw told council that Templeman Menninga laywer Harold Van Winssen was in a conflict of interest position because he was a director in a numbered company along with Ike and Taso Christopher.
McCaw said the firm Templeman Menninga also worked for the City of Belleville.
The numbered company is the owner of a parcel of land that would be used for a roundabout to be built by the city at Farnham Road and Maitland Drive.
Lawyer Van Winnsen says all he did was draw up the shell company on January 16th.
Van Winnsen says councillor McCaw did not make a mistake intentionally, as the government information on the company has not been updated and is incorrect.
