Game #1 – Grey Bruce Highlanders
Ethan Taylor came ready to play and kept his team in it early on as they were slow to find their legs. Grey Bruce would score first before the Red Devils would tie it up before the end of the period. Grey Bruce would take a 2-1 lead before the Red Devils would tie it up late in the second with only 3 seconds remaining on the clock. The Devils would pull out the victory and score the games last 2 goals on their way to a 4-2 victory. Ethan Taylor was absolutely sensational during the contest and without his effort the Devils may have had a different outcome. Goals were scored by Bailey Matthews, Dalton Bancroft, Daniel Panetta and Emmet Pierce while assist went to Derrick Vos, Graham Dickerson, Jake Campbell(2), Dalton Bancroft, Cameron Supryka, Zach Uens and Matt Cawker.
Game #2 – Southern Tier Admirals
Brennan Bush came ready to play and was the sole reason this game ended in a 4-2 victory for the Red Devils as the Admirals had 6 shots, a crossbar and a goal post before the Devils realized the game had started and thus the Admirals struck with first with the goal (post) just 55 seconds into the game. After a de-briefing from the coaching staff the Red Devils seemed to have found their legs striking twice within two minutes in the middle of first period. The Admirals would tie things up before the end of the period on the power-play. The Red Devils would get one more in of the two remaining frames and take the much needed victory in order to solidify an opportunity to play on Sunday. Goals were scored Emmet Pierce, Daniel Panetta, Graham Dickerson and Zach Uens and assists Emmet Pierce, Daniel Panetta, Jake Campbell, Dalton Bancroft and Carden Guerin.
Game #3 – Detroit Little Caesars
Once again goaltending would be the key to victory as Ethan Taylor was rock solid in net for the Devils and kept his team in the game and gave them every opportunity to win it. The Red Devils would get the only goal of the first period and in the second would take a 2-0 lead before letting the Little Caesars team back into the game as they ties it up 2-2. In the final frame both goalies played well and kept each of the teams off the scoreboard but with just over three minutes remaining the Devils would score to take the lead and would add an empty net with just over a minute to play to win 4-2. Goals were scored by Daniel Panetta, Dalton Bancroft and Michael Andrews(2) while assists went to Derrick Vos, Daniel Panetta(2) and Michael Andrews.
Game #4 – Richmond Hill Coyotes
The Red Devils came out much stronger this game and scored within the first 4 minutes of the game but wouldn’t score again until the mid-mark of the second period. They would add another just before the period ended and heading into the third period with a 3-1 lead. The game would end in a 4-1 victory for the Red Devils as Brennan Bush was once again dominant between the pipes. Goals were scored by Emmet Pierce(2), Graham Dickerson and Michael Andrews while assists went to Logan White(2), Daniel Panetta, Jake Campbell(2), Cameron Supryka and Matt Cawker.
Semi Final Game – Kingston Jr Frontenacs
The Red Devils found themselves playing against a team they know very well but this version of the Kingston Jr Frontenac’s was a bit different as they were missing keys players due to altercations from the previous game. The Red Devils would skate to a 4-1 victory against a very determined, hardworking and short staff Frontenac team. The Red Devils would open the scoring just three minutes into the game but Kingston would tie it up less than two minutes later. The game was a very close skating game as Kingston matched the play of the Devils and Kingston’s goalie was the reason the game was still close at this juncture as he turned away over 35 shots before the end of the second period. The Red Devils remained relentless and continued to pepper Kingston with shots and before the end of the second period were leading 3-1. The Devils would score with five minutes remaining in the third to preserve the victory and for a chance to play in the finals. Goals were scored by Daniel Panetta, Zach Uens and Michael Andrews(2) while assists went to Emmet Pierce, Logan White, Keegan White, Daniel Panetta and Dalton Bancroft(3).
Finals – Guelph Gryphons
The Quinte Red Devils would come out strong, fast and with a purpose and skated to a 5-1 victory. Brennan Bush played extremely well and back stopped his team to become the Champions in the Tournament of Champions. Goals were scored by Daniel Panetta, Michael Andrews, Zach Uens, Emmet Pierce and Graham Dickerson while assists went to Dalton Bancroft, Zach Uens, Emmet Pierce, Jake Campbell, Daniel Panetta, Matt Cawker and Bailey Matthews and the game MVP went to Daniel Panetta.
Vanderlaan Building Products – Minor Bantam
On Saturday Jan. 21, the Vanderlaan Minor Bantams hosted the Ajax-Pickering Raiders. Ajax would end the first period with a 1-0 lead and did not look back. They would go on to score four goals in the second period. The Devils would manage two goals scored by Connor Brooks and Ethan Broek. Helpers coming from Issac Uens, Clayton Farrow (2) and Daniel Michaud. The Raiders win with a final score of 5-2. Dixon Grimes was in net.
On Sunday Jan. 22, the Devils traveled to Kingston to take on the Junior Frontenacs. After battling back and forth for three periods the game would end in a 0-0 tie. Ethan Fraser was in net.
Topper’s Pizza- Novice
On Wednesday January 11th the Red Devils hosted the Oshawa Generals and skated away with a 4-0 win. The Red Devils defense limited the Generals to only a few scoring chances. Quinn Donovan recorded the shutout in goal. Scoring for the Devils was Riley Reid (2), Ryland Cunningham and Jack Foley. Picking up assists was Gavin Armstrong (2), Cooper Kelly (2), Kaden Koutroulides, Connor Fetterley, Carson Lynch and Brendan Reid.
On Saturday Jan. 14, the Red Devils traveled to Peterborough to face the first place Petes. The Red Devils struggled to find their game and ended up losing 5-1. Nowl Wallace picked up the loss between the pipes. Riley Reid scored the lone goal for the Red Devils.
On Saturday Jan. 21, the Red Devils traveled to Clarington. The Red Devils got outplayed from start to finish by the Toros and ended up losing by a score of 6-1. Quinn Donovan recorded the loss in goal. Kolby Craig scored the goal, which was assisted by Jack Foley.
On Sunday Jan. 22, the Red Devils hosted the Whitby Wildcats and lost by a score of 4-3. Nowl Wallace picked up the loss in net. Scoring for the Red Devils was Ryland Cunningham (2) and Owen Rivers. Picking up assists was Carson Lynch, Kaden Koutroulides, Blake Leblanc and Rykken Ellis.
The Red Devils have four games remaining in a tight battle with the Wildcats, Toros and Generals for the final two playoff spots.
On Deck: The Red Devils host the Peterborough Petes on January 25th and are hosting an exhibition outdoor series on Wolfe Island versus the Oshawa Generals on Sunday January 29th.
KKP – Minor Atom
The KKP Minor atom’s took 4 of a possible 6 points this week. On Wednesday, the Devils dropped a tough 4-1 decision to Kingston with Ben Graham notching the only tally for the hosts.
On Saturday, Quinte travelled to Fenelon Falls and dominated from start to finish in a 6-1 win. Graham once again paced the attack with a pair while Kaiden Harmon, Carter Chadwick, Mason Musclow and Alek Asimis also scored.
On Sunday in Deseronto, the KKP crew edged Ajax-Pickering 3-2. Rylan McCormack scored the eventual game winner late in the second after earlier tallies from Chadwick and Asimis. Liam Boyer was in goal for all three contests.
On Deck: The KKP minor atom’s return to action Saturday in Whitby before hosting York-Simcoe on Sunday in Deseronto.
Foley Bus Lines – Peewee
The Foley Bus Lines Major Peewees gained 2 more points in ETA action this week, with a win over the Central Ontario Wolves at home in Madoc.
The Bus Liners hosted the Central Ontario Wolves in Madoc this past Sunday January 22. Isaac Brown opened the scoring in the first period to take a 1 to 0 lead in the game on feeds from Aaron Brown and Rheydan McCoy. The Wolves started to pressure in the 2nd period and the Devils got into some penalty trouble, but Andrew Munro kept the Wolves from scoring in the Devils net. Cooper Matthews would add the 2nd Devils goal in the third period on a one timer from Trevor Hoskin and Owen Gibson. Andrew Munro continued to turn away the shots from the Wolves; as the Devils blanked the Wolves 2 to 0, with Munro recording the shut out in the Devils cage.
On Deck: Next action for the Foley Bus Lines Peewees is Tuesday Jan 24, as the Devils host the Peterborough Petes in Madoc. Puck drops at 730pm.
Madison Excavating – Major Atom
The Madison Excavating Major Atoms racked up another 4 points with 2 wins at home and the top spot in the east. Wednesday, Jan. 18, Quinte played host in Marmora to the Clarington Toros. The two teams have notoriously battled back and forth through game play and the first period of this game was no different as the set ended in a 0-0 tie. The Devils went to work offensively in the second. Thomas Kuipers scored the first on the set up from Liam Philip and Carson Campbell. Braedyn Rogers would add one unassisted from the point, followed by a sniper from Ty Therrien, assisted by Beckett Ewart. Clarington would find the back of the Quinte net but the Devils answered back moments later with another from Therrien, assisted by Ewart and Campbell to make it 4-1. In the third, Quinte went on to seal the win with another 2 unanswered goals from Philip and Brody Partridge, assisting were Kuipers(2), Rogers and Ben Vreugdenhil. Dean Spry stood tall in the net for the Devils throughout the decisive 6-1 victory.
The Devils were on home ice again to face the Central Ontario Wolves on Saturday. The pace was a little slow to start but it was the Devils once again to hit the scoreboard first on a shot from Ewart, assisted by Therrien and Jared Langdon. The second saw Quinte pick up the pace and add a couple points as Partridge and Therrien each added one. Helpers came from Ty McCambridge, Kuipers, Ewart and Langdon. While the Wolves goaltender worked hard all game facing a lot of quality shots, the third period saw the Devils add two more and seal the 5-0 win. Scoring in the third were Ewart and Therrien, assisted by Ben Danford, Therrien, Rogers and Vreugdenhil. Glen McInnes was solid in net to record the shut out.
On Deck: The Devils will be at home on Wednesday, Jan. 25 to face the Kingston Jr. Frontenacs at QSWC at 6:15pm. Saturday, Quinte will be back on their home ice in Marmora at 3pm to host the Peterborough Petes. Sunday, Jan. 29 will have the Devils on the road to Little Britain to take on the Central Ontario Wolves.
