It was a great evening of volleyball yesterday at Loyalist College, as the women and men Lancers teams split games with the Canadore College Panthers, based out of North Bay, Ontario.
The Lady Lancers knocked off the Panthers in straight sets, winning 25-18, 25-21 and 25-10. Sara Piana Yafu turned in another superstar performance, with 17 kills on the attack and 13 digs. Other great games came from Raven Maracle (33 assists), Emilie Leneveu (11 kills) and Christine Madago (4 blocks).
Following the women’s victory, the men fell 3-1 in sets to the Panthers. They lost a tight first set 27-29, before bouncing back to win the second set by a 25-16 count, then dropping back-to-back 22-25 sets to lose the match. Leading the way for the Lancers was Gabe Van Allen with 43 assists, Josh Roberts with a team-high 14 kills and Adam Strickland with 12 kills and 10 digs.
Next games for the Lancers will be Wednesday night in another doubleheader, as they will travel to Toronto to take on the George Brown Huskies. Game times 6 p.m. for the Lady Lancers, 8 p.m. for the men.
