More work is planned for this spring on the provincial government’s multi-million dollar cleanup of the former Deloro Mine site.
Plans are underway for work at both the Young’s Creek area and the industrial mining site of the former Deloro Mine site in Hastings County.
Ministry of Environment officials say the cleanup project is about 75% completed.
Spokesperson Megan Brien says Young’s Creek water is no longer contaminated.
Brien says low level radioactive waste is already capped in the consolidated industrial mining area.
She says this area will be planted with vegetation once the snow clears in the spring.
The cleanup project is expected to be competed by 2020.
Deloro was one of Ontario’s first gold mines, and the first producer of arsenic in North America.
