“It takes a village to look after its seniors and Prince Edward County is doing a pathetic job of it,” says resident Ken Howe.
The retired County teacher gave a deputation to the committee of the whole today on the Emmanuel Baptist Church’s affordable seniors co-housing initiative.
The municipality has listed affordable housing as a top priority for 2017 as it falls under the new corporate strategic plan. Howe commended the mayor and council for acknowledging housing is needed.
Howe said the committee wants approval in principle to move forward with the application process with the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation to obtain seed funding for a feasibility study.
Howe says they are investigating affordable housing options for local seniors with the goal of building a 50 to 100 room housing complex.
The request was referred to staff for a report due back on January 26.
