Belleville will take a serious look at electronic voting for councillors in the council chambers.
A report to council Monday night by manager of information systems Marc Coyle indicates that a “stand alone” voting system would cost $3,000 initially and $16,000 annually.
Extra staff would be required to pre-configure each resolution into the system.
Councillor Panciuk supported the system.

He says it’s difficult for people to see the hands-up vote on TV or the internet streaming system.
Numerous municipalities already have electronic voting, including Toronto, Barrie and Kingston.
Council asked for a staff report to be presented at the operating budget debate in April.
