(Prince Edward, ON) Prince Edward County OPP have received complaints of two different kinds of fraudulent calls in the past few days.
The first involved a purchase on Kijiji of a snow blower where the victim sent a large sum of money to purchase the unseen item. The victim since learned the seller was located in Africa and has not received his snow blower.
The second involved a male receiving a call from a fraudster posing as a lawyer advising that his son was being held in custody and he needed to send money to have him released from jail. The victim in this matter has been defrauded out of $3000.
Police advise the public to be diligent when receiving unusual or suspicious phone calls and are encouraged to research the situation thoroughly prior to releasing personal information or sending money to unknown parties for unconfirmed emergent situations or for items being purchased over the internet.
