The Wellington Dukes sailed into the Christmas break with a solid 3-1 victory over the visiting Markham Royals in a rare Tuesday night matchup.
Brayden Stortz scored his team-leading 21st and 22nd goals of the season, his first being an unassisted, shorthanded marker off a turnover from Royals goaltender Marcus Semiao and his second being a buzzer-beating empty-netter.
Rory Milne added the other Dukes tally and Connor Ryckman stopped 31 of 32 shots in the victory.
Final shots favoured Wellington 40-32.
The Dukes head into the Christmas break with a 19-11-1-2 record, good enough for fourth in the East division. They will face the Newmarket Hurricanes in their first game in 2017, on Jan. 5.
