After a year in operation, the Hastings County “situation table” has handled 30 social disorder cases.
The officially-named Community Safety and Well Being committee was launched in 2015 following concerns raised by Belleville police, Quinte West OPP, and Central Hastings OPP about “social disorder cases.”
Planning and policy coordinator Carmela Roburto told the Hastings-Quinte social services committee Wednesday the main risk factors are “mental health, addiction and poverty.” Roburto says the weekly meetings mean there is “rapid intervention.”
Social Services executive director Steve Gatward.
Gatward says the committee meets every Wednesday and is able to respond to “families and individuals in crisis” that individual agencies have not been able to help.
