Hastings-Quinte Social Services continues to assist some residents of a Belleville apartment building who had to be evacuated November 4 because of a fire.
Thirty-seven people were rescued from the seniors’ social services building on Turnbull Street after fire broke out on the second floor, causing heavy smoke and heat damage.
Social Services executive director Steve Gatward told the Hastings-Quinte Social Services committee Wednesday that all 15 people who lived on the second floor remain displaced, and are being helped by his department.
Gatward says 21 of the 22 people who live on the first floor have returned home.
Fire damage could be as high as $275,000.
