The first part of the new year isn’t expected to bring much of a change to the job situation in the Quinte region.
The ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey shows that 7 percent of local employers plan to hire some staff in the first quarter, but 13 percent anticipate some cutbacks.
This means that 80 percent of employers will keep their employment numbers the same in the months January through March.
Nationally, 12 percent of employers plan to hire in the first quarter, while six percent plan layoffs.
Most of the hiring is expected in the public administration and manufacturing sectors.
