The Bayside Swim Team traveled to the University of Guelph on Thursday to compete in the Annual Guelph Invitational swim meet. Out of a strong field of 25 teams, many coming from the swimming rich GHAC, CWOSSA & WOSSA associations, including the perennial OFSAA Champion Georgetown DHS Rebels, Bayside finished 3rd overall behind Georgetown & Centennial Collegiate. The Red Devils dominated in both junior divisions, capturing both the junior girl and junior boy championships with the highest point totals.
BSS won 3 of the 4 50m Free events, which is swimming’s equivalent to the 100 m sprint – Thomas Butler in the junior boy, Mackenzie Latter in the junior girl division, and Rylan Miller in the senior girls division. Butler also won the jr 50 fly, 100 IM, and placed 2nd in the 50 back. Latter also claimed 1st in the 100 FR, 100IM, & 2nd in the 200 FR. Miller won the 100 FR & placed 2nd in the 50 Fly and 100 Breast. Other notables included Jackson Bonn with 3 third places, Simon Hawes with 2 5th places, & Amy Somerville with 2 5th places.
3 relay teams took gold, including the junior boy medley and free relay of Bonn, Butler, Hawes, & Damian Wilson, & the junior girl free relay of Latter, Somerville, Olivia Morphet, & Maddy Hill-Dolan. Next up for the BSS swim team is the Port Hope Invitational next Tuesday.
