Renovations and upgrades to a local elementary school are complete, paving the way for a return to students.
Students at Our Lady of Fatima School in Belleville started this year attending George Vanier, after health concerns from an adjacent property on Sidney Street.
Contaminants were found in the soil, from the former Nortel site (now Avaya and Strathcona Energy), so the Algonquin Lakeshore board moved the students in September.
The board says the cleanup, ventilation upgrades and other renos are now complete, meaning the students’ return will happen over the next few weeks.
Jessica Salmon, spokesperson for the board says an exact date has not been stamped, however a meeting Thursday night will update parents and guardians.
It is taking place at Fatima, in the gymnasium at 6:30 p.m.
