A small school north of Madoc has again topped the long list of Quinte region elementary schools ranked by research group, The Fraser Institute.
Madoc Township school, which is set to close in June, stood 367 out of the 2,900 elementary schools ranked by the Institute, scoring a 7.8 out of a possible 10.
The rankings are based on provincial test results in reading, writing, and math.
Finishing not far behind Madoc Township, among schools in the Hastings Prince Edward District School Board, were Susanna Moodie of Belleville with a 7.5 and Bayside at 7.4.
Performing very poorly in the testing in the public board were Queen Elizabeth in Picton, Prince of Wales in Belleville, and College Street school in Trenton.
In the Algonquin and Lakeshore District Catholic School Board, the top ranking Quinte area school was St. Joseph of Belleville with a 5.6 score, finishing 1,818 out of 2,900.
Not far behind were George Vanier of Belleville and St. Mary of Trenton.
Close to dead last overall was Holy Rosary in Belleville.
In the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, the top ranking area school was Northumberland Hills in Castleton, sitting 1,283 out of 2,900 with a 6.4 score.
Murray Centennial school scored a 5.7, with Kent Public in Campbellford, and Brighton and Spring Valley schools not far behind.
For the CEP de l’Est de l’Ontario, Cite Jeunesse ranked 1,985 out of 2,900 with a 5.3.
At the top of the chart are several schools with a perfect score of 10. They are all from the Greater Toronto Area.
