A local woman who established an organization that works to reduce the number of stray animals by funding sterilization surgery will be recognized by province’s Lieutenant Governor Thursday.
Darlene Quinsey of Fixed Fur Life in Belleville will be awarded Ontario’s Medal for Good Citizenship along with 19 others at a special ceremony at Queen’s Park.
Quinsey’s organization has helped to fix almost 20,000 animals since 2004.
Created in 1973, the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship recognizes people who have made exceptional long-term contributions to the quality of life in the province.
