Despite some opposition, Prince Edward County is getting ready to saddle up for another rodeo.
This past summer’s event on July 23 and 24 saw thousands in attendance at the Picton Fairgrounds.
On Thursday, the committee of the whole carried a motion that will see the municipality fully endorse the County’s continued participation in hosting rodeos and related events.
Twin sisters Angela Lammes and Annette McIntosh addressed the committee echoing previous statements that the rodeo is harmful to animals. Their concern for the animals’ welfare surrounds hot temperatures and acts such as crashing bulls into fencing.
Lammes says she’s disappointed with the committee’s decision.
McIntosh also took issue with the rodeo’s price tag being $38,000 and un-budgeted revenue sitting at $1,676.
