Officials from the Ontario Fire Marshal’s office are now investigating the multi-million dollar fire at the Walmart in Trenton earlier today.
Quinte West Fire Chief John Whalen says fire damaged the back storeroom and caused a great deal of smoke and water damage throughout the store.
No one was injured in the early morning fire and the investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.
Around 3:00 a.m., fire alarms and sprinklers in the back of the store went off and staff evacuated.
Quinte West firefighters responded and found flames in a storage room near the shoe department.
The fire was contained to the storage room, and was out before 4:00 a.m., however, there is smoke and water damage throughout the store.
It is not known when the store will be able to re-open.
