Our region was officially announced as a Start Up Community, under Start Up Canada, during a round table discussion in Ottawa on Monday night.
Start up communities are towns, cities, or in this case regions, that elevate the role of innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
Quintevation Chair Ryan Williams had a front row seat at the discussion and shared some ideas on how to foster entrepreneurship in rural areas.
His main point was that networking is key and the more entrepreneurs get together, the more their ideas will grow.
He noted the success that local business meet and mingles have seen here and said local meet-ups have already created one new business and eight new jobs.
Other start-up communities introduced Monday include the Ottawa Valley, Durham Region, Kingston and Hamilton.
The discussion was one in a series led by Start Up Canada and the organization will be putting its findings into a report, to be published in the coming months.
