Vaughan officially introduced at Loyalist
Ann Marie Vaughan was officially introduced as Loyalist College’s new President at the monthly meeting of the Board of Governors Thursday night by Chair June Hagerman.
Vaughan comes from the College of the North Atlantic in Newfoundland and Labrador, where she had been President and CEO since 2011.
Prior to that, she had been Director for Distance Education and Learning Technologies at Memorial University from 2001 to 2011.
Vaughan says that Belleville is a very welcoming community that is very similar to Newfoundland and is a great place to raise a family. She also says she was struck by how big a “footprint” Loyalist has in the community in that she has met several graduates of the college in her short time in the area.
Vaughan added that she has been to a few events this week around the college since arriving on Monday, including a Lancers basketball game and the United Way of Quinte’s “Smash and Dash” event among others. She says she will also check out industrial sectors, the site of the new casino on Bell Boulevard and the Yardmen Arena within the next few weeks.
Vaughan takes over for Maureen Piercy, who retired on Aug. 31. Dianne Spencer was President in the interim.
Brandt welcomed to the Board
Cindy Brandt was also brought on as a new member of the Board of Governors Thursday evening.
She will serve as a member of the Finance, Corporate Services and Governance Committee.
Brandt has been the CEO of the Caressant Care Retirement and Nursing Home in Marmora for the past five years. Brandt also brings a great amount of health care experience through management and volunteering for 28 years.
Brandt received the Loyalist College Hugh O’Neil Outstanding Alumni Award in 2012 and also chaired the winning Stirling-Rawdon Hockeyville Committee in the same year.
