The new Executive Director for the Ontario branch of the Canadian Cancer Society visited Belleville Thursday.
Mark Heirlihy stopped in to the local branch on Dundas Street where he talked with employees, volunteers and supporters.
Heirlihy told the full board room that it is the volunteers who help to make the CCS so successful.
He added that they have been doing some deep research into the society and they received some sobering answers sometimes.
Comments included that the CCS is boring, they speak in an unclear scientific language, they need to engage with patients/clients in a better way.
He says even phrasing needs to be changed.
Heirlihy says anything that can assist the CCS in improving care and awareness will help them in the long run, no matter how hard it is to hear.
