The Trenton Golden Hawks and Buffalo Jr Sabres met only one time in Quinte West this season, on Thursday night.
It was a tight start, with both teams one shot apart and no goals after 20.
Austin Bottrell scored early in the second period on the power play to make it 1-0. About five minutes later, Dawson Baker would notch his third of the year.
Buffalo would make it a one goal game off a rebound to make it 2-1 and keep the game tight. With just 2:40 left in the middle frame, Mac Lewis snapped a hard shot top corner to restore Trenton’s two goal lead.
In the third period Trenton tightened up their defense and held Buffalo off the score sheet. The G-Hawks would add insurance with four minutes left in the third. It was Liam Morgan on the power play, his 15th goal of the year.
Goaltender Chris Janzen turned aside 31 shots for his 15th win, which is a league best.
They are now on a five game unbeaten stretch.
Trenton welcomes the Newmarket Hurricanes for the second and final time this year, on Friday. In the first game of the season, Trenton walked over the Canes 11-2 and have also defeated them 7-0.
Puck drop is 7:30 p.m., with the broadcast on CJBQ starting at 7:20 p.m. There will also be a pre-game Remembrance Service honouring our heroes in the military.
