Prince Edward County has given the green light to a pair of small ground mounted solar panel projects.
Tuesday night council approved one 500 kilowatt project for Airport Lane and Mowbray Road in Hallowell and a 250 kilowatt solar farm proposed for County Road 14 in Sophiasburgh Ward.
Ian Howes of Compass Energy Consulting explained the municipality stands to make roughly $3,500 annually from the five acre Hallowell project plus they plan to offer local jobs. The project is expected to be decommissioned after 20-years however he said the company is hoping they will be refurbished with new elements added. Sophiasburgh resident Roger Zhang is planning for his three acre project to be built on his property.
Mayor Robert Quaiff was direct in stating his opposition to the Green Energy Act and voted against each project.
The Hallowell project is expected to take three to four months to build.
