Quinte West is honouring a trio of former councillors who died while serving in office.
On Monday night, a black granite commemorative plaque was unveiled with the names of Roy Ingram, Doreen Reid and Doug Whitney inscribed on it.
It was an emotional night for many, including brothers Greg and Brad Reid.
Their mother Doreen, a Sidney Ward councillor died in 2008, after serving on council for almost a decade.
Reid’s youngest son Brad said he and his siblings including Jeff and Kelly who couldn’t make the ceremony, are humbled by the honour for their mother.
Reid’s second eldest son Greg shared one of his treasured memories of his mom.
Ingram, also a Sidney Ward Councillor was elected in 2003 and died in 2006 during his second term on council.
His wife Brenda said she was delighted to hear that the councillors were being recognized.
Doug Whitney was also well known for his involvement in the community, particularly with the Fantasy of Lights. The display was recently named the Doug Whitney Fantasy of Lights. Whitney was elected in 2000 and died in 2015.
Brenda Whitney expressed how her older brother Doug would be very honoured by the gesture.
Whitney’s younger brother Jim was also in attendance.
Mayor Jim Harrison remembered all three councillors for leaving their mark on the City.
