A long negotiating process involving a part of the Belleville fairgrounds is expected to come to a conclusion later this month.
President of the Belleville Agricultural Society Donnie Jarrell says if all goes according to plan, city
council should vote on ratifying an agreement between the Society and itself at council’s next regular meeting November 14th.
Details of the agreement aren’t known, but they involve the city taking over control of the fairgrounds property east of Sidney Street, around where the former Ben Bleecker building sits.
The Society will receive an unknown amount of compensation for turning over the land
The Belleville Agricultural Society would still control the fairgrounds west of Sidney Street.
However, negotiations will restart in the near future with the goal of eventually having the city control the entire fairgrounds, with the Belleville Agricultural Society moving its events and operations to another location.
That process will take some time.
