Over 120 charges were laid in the Quinte Region after a ‘Big 4’ traffic blitz on November 2.
The Big 4 zeroed in on aggressive driving, impaired driving, distracted driving and failing to wear seatbelts.
Of the 123 charges the Quinte Region Traffic Coalition laid, 74 were for speeding, 20 distracted (cell phone use), two seatbelt infractions, one suspended driver, one with no insurance and 20 for other traffic act offences.
One distracted driver was found to be texting at a stop light on Highway # 62 in Belleville while his toddler was sleeping in a car seat in the back seat.
Central Hastings OPP Constable Alana Deubel says distracted driving can cost someone much more than a $490 fine. Deubel reminds drivers to keep their hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.
