The three-year renovation project at the Hastings County building in Belleville is drawing to a close.
The renovation work is expected to wrap up by the end of this year.
It began after the courtroom facilities were moved to the new courthouse on Bridge Street.
The first project was to change the former main courtroom into new county council chambers.
From there the work continued in stages throughout the building including committee rooms and stairwells.
Deputy Clerk Jim Duffin says the final stage, renovation of the historic “stone house” at the east side of the building, is well underway.
The stone house had been the original courthouse in the 1800s.
Duffin expects the project to come in just over $5 million.
