If Quinte West council gives final approval, a new baseball diamond in Trenton’s Centennial Park will be known as “Bayshore Field”.
The hardball diamond will be near the Don Ogden Field.
Councillor Duncan Armstrong suggested the name.
City staff and some on the Economic Development Committee thought the public might be confused with
an area near City Hall that used to be called Bayshore Park.
However, the city’s Corporate Finance Committee recommended council approve “Bayshore Field”.
On another issue, Corporate Finance voted to recommend council give the Trenton Figure Skating Club $5,000 from this year’s community grant budget and consider a request for another $10,000 during budget discussions for next year.
The club is asking for a total of $15,000 to help pay the costs of a special 60th anniversary carnival to held in the spring.
One of the featured guests at the carnival will be Trenton native and Olympic silver medalist (1988) Elizabeth Manley.
